Unique among most other Christian Churches, the Mormon Church accepts and celebrates the doctrine of continuing revelation. In Mormon beliefs, God still speaks to us through prophets. Since the foundation of the Church by its first prophet, Joseph Smith, the Church has always been led by prophets.
And the Mormon prophets have always had a great deal to say about the family. Mormons see the family as not only the basic unit of society, but the basic unit of religion. The family is taught to be of paramount importance.
